All people in the practicum or holding a certificate in Theraplay® at any level are required to review the best practice guidelines below.
Please note that you must agree to the best practice requirements if you wish to receive a certificate of attendance for a Theraplay® training.
Theraplay® is a registered service-mark in the UK and thus there are restrictions and requirements on how to refer to your Theraplay work. Read the complete document here: Theraplay Service Mark Guidelines
After completing Level 1 or Level 2 Theraplay® training, you should describe your work as ‘based on Theraplay® principles’ and you should describe your assessments as ‘based on the Marschak Interaction Method (MIM)’. You cannot say that you are ‘doing Theraplay’, or describe yourself as a ‘Level 1/Level 2 Theraplay practitioner/therapist’. If you enroll on the Theraplay® practicum and complete Foundational or Intermediate level, you can describe your work as ‘Theraplay® Informed Practice’. Only when you complete all three levels of the practicum, can you refer to yourself as a ‘Certified Theraplay® Practitioner’, describe your work as ‘Theraplay®’ and say that you are ‘carrying out a MIM assessment’. The Theraplay® Institute cannot assume responsibility for the quality of your work. Attending training in and of itself does not bestow any status or endorsement to your work. If you are not an accredited professional, you must always have a regular supervisor and cannot use Theraplay principles in an independent setting.
Those with a Foundational or Intermediate certificate should refer to their work as Theraplay Informed Practice.
After the completion of the full Certified Theraplay Practitioner practicum and all other requirements for certification, you may refer to yourself as a Certified Theraplay Practitioner and your practice as Theraplay.
All certificate holders must register with The Theraplay® Institute each January to attest that their qualifications and status are in good standing. More information about this will be sent to you later in the year.
Other Support Available for Continuing your Learning
In addition to the practicum we offer on-line web supervision at which practicum students share video of their treatment session and receive feedback and suggestions from a Theraplay supervisor. All training graduates are invited to register to observe these sessions, and the first two are free. For more information and a schedule click here.
Regional support meetings and refresher courses are being organized in the UK and will be announced shortly.
We are happy to answer any questions you might have or clarify your qualifications to use Theraplay Informed Practise or to enter the practicum.
